CUBAN DANCE AND MUSIC COURSES
Cuba is known throughout the world for its rich culture and unique style. The mixture of African and Spanish influences is celebrated through arts, music, dance and religion. The arts thrive as concerts, exhibits, street festivals, and creative minds frequently gather to celebrate the diversity of Cuban people. Join us in Havana! Experience the movements and sounds that are a major part of Cuba's cultural identity. For the first time Cuba's most prestigious arts organizations, Artex and Transnico International collaborate to offer a 2-week dance and percussion program with some of Cuba's best instructors.
The participants stay in half board in the 3* Deauville Hotel, in Centro Habana right at the famous malecon. At walking distance lies the Teatro America where most of the classes take place. To facilitate the mobility in the city each participant receives a bicycle at disposal for the whole stay. In the weekends we include social and touristic activities in and outside of the city to get to know the country better.
Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9 am to 1.30 pm, with plenty of relax time in between. In the morning, participants learn Salsa, Rumba and Afro-Cuban dances and then make some noise in the percussions course in the afternnon. The workshops are a fun and educational combination that includes traditional Afro-Cuban songs, and meetings with Cuban dancers so you can practice the latest dance moves such as "La Rueda". All levels are welcome. Also participants may study both dance and percussion or focus on one aspect such as percussion only.
Through its contacts with Cuban's cultural institutions Transnico International has built up experience in organising these specialised programs within the legal frameworks of the Cuban state, authorising even its participation for US nationals in joint agreement with the American tour operator Global Exchange.
A program can be worked out upon demand according to the wishes and the interests of the group as to what part of the Cuban cultural heritage (music, dance, plastic or performing arts) must be focused upon. Transnico can arrange learning courses, visits to performances or museums, or establish the necessary contacts with the cultural institutions.
Or let's hear Heather, a Global Exchange participant (31, Calif.) who enjoyed this unusual of way of visiting the island:
"I think Transnico has done a good job in setting a busy program for us, there are activities every afternoon and almost every evening, we can pick up and choose which one we want to go. I was in Cuba a little while before the program started, so I had some experience in this country, but the schedule of activities that Transnico set up was very complete, they keep us busy all the time. Also, the organizers made every effort to please us, for example, at the beginning I choose the beginners dance class but I learned very fast and I got bored in that group, then they rearranged it and I was transferred to the advance group. At the end, I had learned a lot about music and dance in classes and also out of them, because music is everywhere in Cuba, almost every single peace of music that I heard outside the dance classes had told something new for me. It had been much fun, all the time".
